 Tourism drive on wheels

 Date: 30 Sep 2008

KUALA LUMPUR: Follow that taxi or bus if you need holiday ideas.

The latest Tourism Ministry advertising campaign will turn buses, taxis and trains into billboards for holiday packages for domestic travel.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the campaign is expected to give extensive exposure to Malaysian travel products, activities and destinations.

Advertisements on tour packages and destinations will be clearly displayed on airport limousines, RapidKL and Transnasional buses, Ampang line and Kelana Jaya line LRT trains and the KL Monorail.

The campaign which will run for six months from tomorrow, currently involves 50 airport limos in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, respectively, 100 city buses in KL, Petaling Jaya and 10 states in the peninsula and the trains.

Travellers can call 1300-88-5050 for information on the Tourism Malaysia holiday packages.

Azalina said that besides promoting national integration, such campaigns would help the people to plan their holidays and explore various places of interest in their own backyard.

She said this after launching the "Zoom! Holiday" advertising campaign at the Putra World Trade Centre LRT station and RapidKL bus station in Jalan Raja Laut yesterday.

She said the ministry is aggressively promoting budget travel in the country to take full advantage of current economic conditions.

"We want those in the tourism business outside tourism hotspots to benefit, as the campaign will encourage Malaysians to travel to 'new' destinations in the country instead of frequenting the same places," she said.
